- This site comes directly from the Department of Environmental Protection.
- This source I will use specifically to be able to demonstrate first hand complaints of noises all over New York City. The data is updated everyday, every time someone calls into the number 311 (The known emergency contact for complaints in New York City).
- The DEP looks into this issue because it is a more common issue within NYC health conflicts

- During covid, complaints did get more consistent. You are spending all your time at home and even though there is not much that you can do, you just want serenity. If you were one of the many people in New York City that got covid, you would also like some quietness to rest from the aching of the pain. It is understandable. But why is it not understandable for those who could care less of a pandemic and would still be making noise? Or why are there still hundreds of cars outside while covid rises again?
- Bloomberg did sympathize with us but why wasn’t his end of helping his community being held responsible? Levelable sounds just 5 times louder because this issue does not seem important enough. This is the sad truth for us.
ISSUE
- This source supports the issue that noise pollution is usually surrounding areas of color, Black and Brown communities. All because of another common issue within the government and the state, the economical inequality that is growing day by day. People have the need to sell their homes, their sites, their property because of the money being offered to them, instead of more financial help being offered just to make a better living for themselves and their family. New buildings being constructed in front of schools is going to cause a distraction. Free lance construction in buildings that are falling apart, in front of deli’s salons, or other small businesses will just make it hard for any attraction.
- There is a power structure with all of this. The ones with the money are taking advantage of segregated areas because they believe that they are becoming less appealing so they try to change that and make money out of it. Little do they know that many children, adults and elders are struggling to enjoy their peace in their homes or have a good rest after a long day.
- “Without funding, noise research has proven difficult.” (Casey, et ac, 2017)

- The chart already starting off in this article showcases the disturbance of sleep. Leads to mental health issues and physical issues when you do not have the proper hours of sleep depending on your age group. Noise pollution can be medically harmful and sometimes can lead to the dependence of drugs. But, if made aware about the issue then there can be a reduction resolution and there won’t be need for this option.
- During the nighttime is when the city really wakes up and gets the noisiest. Numbers showcase like 35% of the complaints from sleep is traffic, that being from highways or from the local streets. Or other cases like 11% is from garbage trucks that for no good reason are very loud and fast when just trying to pick up trash. But it leads to more thoughts like the fact that garbage truck sites are sometimes parked a few blocks away from homes and apartments and when they are processing everything, the noise will lead to disturbance. Why are they near residents in the first place?

- The specific impact of children’s behaviors is concerning for a parent. This article will appeal to the logos of the issue. In fact, the noise levels can cause behavioral changes to a child and cause damage to their learning ability and their attention span for more important activities.
